The latest expansion for the fast-growing Star Wars: Unlimited TCG, “Jump to Lightspeed“, brings the focus squarely onto thrilling space combat, iconic starships, and the daring pilots who command them. Released last month (March 14th, 2025), this fourth set represents a significant shift for the game and blasts players into hyperspace with new mechanics and exciting cards. While the first year of Star Wars: Unlimited focused heavily on ground battles, “Jump to Lightspeed” flips the formula, putting a major emphasis on space combat. Expect to see legendary vessels like the Millennium Falcon and Fett’s Firespray alongside massive Star Destroyers and agile X-wings taking centre stage. This focus is so central that the set introduces a brand-new keyword: Piloting.
New Frontiers:
Piloting, Indirect Damage & Hyperspace
“Jump to Lightspeed” introduces fresh gameplay mechanics that deepen the strategic possibilities:
- Piloting: This innovative keyword adds incredible flexibility. Certain unit cards (including the leaders from the new Spotlight Decks, Boba Fett and Han Solo) can be played either as regular ground/space units or directly onto a friendly vehicle in play as an upgrade, often for an alternative resource cost. When piloting, the unit enhances the vehicle, adding power, health, and unique abilities. Imagine Chewbacca jumping into the Falcon’s cockpit – the “Chewbacca, Faithful First Mate” pilot card gives his vehicle +3/+3 and makes it immune to effects that would defeat it or return it to hand! Or picture Bossk taking the helm – his pilot card adds +2/+2 and gives the vehicle an aggressive “On Attack” ability. This mechanic allows for dynamic shifts in strategy and powerful combinations.
- Indirect Damage: Forget simply targeting one unit. Cards dealing “Indirect Damage” force your opponent to distribute that damage amongst their units or even their base as they see fit. This adds a psychological layer – do they sacrifice a key unit to protect their base, or spread the damage around? Boba Fett’s leader ability revolves around this, synergising with cards like “No Disintegrations” or ships like “Hunting Aggressor” to apply constant pressure.
- Hyperspace: While the exact gameplay mechanics are subtle, the concept adds flavour and collectability. Cards with the “Hyperspace” border treatment are alternate art versions found across rarities, adding visual flair and chase elements to packs.

“Jump to Lightspeed” has unleashed powerful new cards impacting deck-building across the board. Here are some of the most talked-about cards players are seeking:
- Devastator, Overwhelming Power (Legendary Unit): A true capital ship menace. Its ability to deal significant damage upon play makes it a prime finisher, especially in aggressive Red Villain decks potentially using Sneak Attack strategies.
- Planetary Bombardment (Rare Tactic): Deals a hefty 8 indirect damage (or 12 if you control a capital ship!). This forces incredibly tough decisions on your opponent and is a cornerstone of indirect damage strategies.
- Chewbacca, Faithful First Mate (Rare Unit/Pilot): Widely considered one of the best pilots. Granting a vehicle +3/+3 and immunity to removal effects makes any ship significantly harder to deal with, especially the Falcon.
- Han Solo, Has His Moments (Rare Unit/Pilot): Enables immediate attacks when piloting the Millennium Falcon, perfect for sniping key enemy units before they can act. Versatile in both space and ground roles.
- Luke Skywalker, You Still With Me? (Rare Unit/Pilot): A safe and resilient pilot. If his vehicle is destroyed, Luke hits the ground ready to fight, mitigating the risk often associated with committing units as upgrades.
- Director Krennic, On The Verge Of Greatness (Rare Unit): Offers discounts on Imperial ships and synergises with “When Defeated” strategies, often seen in decks led by Thrawn. Great utility for space-focused Imperial decks.
- War Juggernaut (Rare Unit): An aggressive powerhouse that grows stronger for each damaged unit in play, capable of overwhelming opponents quickly.
- Boba Fett, Feared Bounty Hunter (Rare Unit/Pilot): Deals extra damage when piloting Transport vehicles, adding relentless pressure in aggressive bounty hunter or indirect damage decks.
- Prestige Variants (Carbonite Exclusive): Found only in Carbonite packs, these feature unique aesthetic treatments on existing cards, making them the ultimate prize for collectors.
