As this captivating trading card game from Ravensburger enters its second year, the Glimmers of Archazia’s Island are falling under the shadow of a notorious villain. A Villainous Takeover: "Reign of Jafar" Arrives Soon!
The next chapter in the Lorcana saga, the Reign of Jafar set, is scheduled to cast its spell on hobby stores from May 30, 2025, with a wider retail release following on June 6, 2025. This expansion, comprising 204 new cards, sees the cunning sorcerer Jafar successfully seize control of Archazia’s Island. Having reforged the powerful Hexwell Crown, he has transformed the island into his personal sandy citadel, posing what Ravensburger describes as “the greatest threat that Lorcana has faced!”
What New Glimmers Await in Jafar's Reign?
The Reign of Jafar set introduces several exciting elements:
- More Dual-Ink Power: Expect an increase in powerful dual-ink cards, offering greater deck-building flexibility. A key example revealed is Arthur, Determined Squire, a Sapphire/Steel card boasting impressive 6/6 stats for just 4 ink. His unique “No More Books” ability can force opponents to skip their draw step, introducing a significant new control element.
- Iconic Characters & New Abilities: Alongside new versions of classic heroes, villains take centre stage. Look out for multiple Hades cards designed to synergize across ink types, the mighty Monstro, Infamous Will (Amethyst) featuring Rush and a “Full Breach” ability (discard a card to ready Monstro after it acts, allowing multiple challenges), and new Legendary glimmers of Goofy and Naamari. The set will also expand on the “Illusion” mechanic.
- The Illumineer’s Quest – Palace Heist: Releasing alongside the Reign of Jafar main set, this is a cooperative adventure for 1-4 players! Face off against a special Jafar deck (with his own unique 50-card deck) across four difficulty levels. It’s a premium boxed experience with a game board, unique art deck boxes, and special components. Early previews suggest this is a huge step up in quality for Lorcana’s cooperative play.
