A Collector's Guide to Pokémon TCG: Mega Brave & Mega Symphonia
A new era has begun for the Pokémon TCG in Japan. The dual sets, Mega Brave (M1L) and Mega Symphonia (M1S) were recently released on August 1st, 2025 – and we’ve got them at the shop and online!
This release marks the spectacular return of Mega Evolution (take a look at our previous blog: Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution Set: A WLC Guide to Products for more information on the English release – and how to pre-order!).
At WLC we’ve got lots of the latest Japanese Pokemon TCG sets available. Here we’ve put together a comprehensive guide on everything these incredible sets have to offer.
A New Kind of Power: How Mega Evolution Works Now
The new Mega Evolution Pokémon ex cards are a step up in power for players, but they come with a new set of rules that distinguish them from their XY-era predecessors.
- No Turn End: The biggest change is that evolving into a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex no longer ends your turn. This makes them far more aggressive and immediately impactful.
- Three Prize Rule: These titans of the game are a high-risk, high-reward play. When one is Knocked Out, your opponent takes three Prize cards.
- Streamlined Evolution: In a welcome change, these Pokémon evolve from their pre-evolution stage (e.g., Riolu evolves directly into Mega Lucario ex), making them much easier to get into play.

For the Collectors: MUR and Full Art Items are Here
These sets introduce two revolutionary changes for collectors, especially those who appreciate Japanese cards.
MUR (Mega Ultra Rare)
A breath-taking new rarity exclusive to Mega Evolution Pokémon. These gold-etched cards feature unique artwork, setting them apart from even the Special Art Rares. The intricate gold foiling makes the Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex MURs instant chase cards.
Full Art Item Cards
For the first time, regular Item cards are getting the full-art treatment! This is a huge development for collectors, turning gameplay staples into beautiful, textured works of art.
The Stars of the Sets: A Closer Look
Each set has a distinct identity, though you’ll need cards from both to build the most competitive decks.
Mega Brave (M1L): The Power Hitters
This set is all about raw power, focusing on Fighting and Metal types. The lineup is headlined by heavy hitters like Mega Lucario ex, the imposing Mega Venusaur ex, and the fierce Mega Mawile ex. If you’re looking to build an aggressive deck, you can find the Mega Brave Booster Box right here at WLC.
Mega Symphonia (M1S): The Master Tacticians
This set focuses on strategy, featuring Psychic and Fairy types. It’s led by the elegant Mega Gardevoir ex, the bulky Mega Kangaskhan ex, and the swift Mega Latias ex. For players who prefer a more calculated approach, the Mega Symphonia Booster Box is an essential pickup.

The Chase: High-Value Trainers and Art Rares
Beyond the headline Pokémon, the biggest prizes in these sets are the Trainer cards. The Special Art Rare (SAR) versions of Lillie’s Determination and Acerola’s Mischief are already projected to be two of the most valuable cards of the year. The Art Rares are also stunning, with cards like Riolu, Vulpix, and Spiritomb featuring incredible illustrations.
