The next chapter in the Mega Evolution era is officially on its way! The second major English release has been revealed as Pokémon Phantasmal Flames, a set that promises to be one of the most exciting of the year, headlined by the return of the iconic Mega Charizard X.
After some initial confusion following the delay of the first Mega Evolution set, The Pokémon Company International has now confirmed that Phantasmal Flames will receive a worldwide release on November 14th, 2025. This guide contains everything you need to know about this fiery new expansion.

The Stars of the Show: Mega Charizard X & Mega Gengar ex
Phantasmal Flames is built around a thrilling theme of fire and shadows. The main attraction is, without a doubt, Mega Charizard X ex. This card features the fan-favourite blue-flamed, shiny, Charizard X and comes with the devastating “Inferno X” attack, which deals 90 damage for each Fire Energy you discard from your Pokémon.
Joining the fray is the ghostly Mega Gengar ex. As one of the most popular Ghost-type Pokémon, its inclusion is lining the set up nicely to become a must-have for many collectors and players.
What's Inside Phantasmal Flames?
One of the most exciting details for collectors is that Phantasmal Flames is set to be the smallest English expansion in nearly a decade, with just over 120 cards in total. This should make chasing the set’s most beautiful Illustration Rares and Secret Rares a much more manageable task.
The set will be a combination of cards from several Japanese releases:
- The main Japanese set, Inferno X, which releases on September 26th and also features Mega Charizard X. We’ve already had a few card reveals from this set, including a new Art Rare for Ambipom.
- Cards from the Mega Gengar ex and Mega Diancie ex Starter Sets.

Booster Box & Packs
The standard release will include 36-pack booster boxes and individual booster packs, each featuring one of four stunning pack artworks
Elite Trainer Box (ETB)
The Phantasmal Flames ETB is themed around Mega Charizard X, with a sleek black-and-blue design. It will include 9 booster packs, sleeves, dice, and a special illustration rare promo card of Charcadet.
Blister Packs
Standard single-pack and three-pack blisters will be available, featuring promo cards such as Sneasel and Weavile.
Booster Bundle
For those looking for a middle ground between a few packs and a full booster box, the Booster Bundle is the perfect option. This compact box contains six Phantasmal Flames booster packs, making it a great-value purchase for building your collection or for a small draft with a friend.
Checklane Blisters (Single Pack)
Perfect for a pocket-money purchase, the single-pack Checklane Blisters offer great value. Each blister comes with one Phantasmal
Flames booster pack, a large collectible coin, and a full evolution line of three exclusive promo cards. There are two versions to collect, featuring either the Applin evolution line or the Arrokuda evolution line.
Mega Battle Decks
Arriving a few weeks before the main set, these two ready-to-play decks are the perfect introduction to the new Mega Evolution mechanics. Each 60-card deck is built around a powerful Mega Pokémon ex and is designed to be played straight out of the box. They are an ideal entry point for new players or for anyone wanting to get a feel for the set’s themes. The two decks are:
- Mega Gengar ex Deck: A deck focused on shadow-based attacks.
- Mega Diancie ex Deck: A deck built around the Jewel Pokémon.
Each of these decks will include the titular Mega Pokémon ex as a guaranteed promo card.
Mega Charizard X ex Ultra-Premium Collection (Releasing November 14th)
For the dedicated collector, the headline product of the season will be the Mega Charizard X ex Ultra-Premium Collection (UPC). Releasing on the same day as the main set, this is a premium box packed with exclusive items and a huge number of booster packs.
The UPC will contain:
- Two exclusive promo cards: Mega Charizard X ex and Oricorio ex.
- A stunning playmat featuring Mega Charizard X.
- 65 card sleeves with the Mega Charizard X design.
- A themed deck box.
- A metal coin and premium damage-counter dice.
- 18 Phantasmal Flames booster packs.
