The excitement for the return of Mega Evolution has been building all year, and it just hit a new peak! A brand new trailer has dropped, giving us our first proper look at the upcoming “Mega Evolution” set and confirming a date for more information: July 10th. This news is just the start, with major developments happening across the TCG world. Here at We Love Collectibles, let’s break down what this all means for players and collectors.
The Pokémon TCG: A New Era Begins!
The Return of Mega Evolution!
This September, the Pokémon TCG will officially move beyond the Scarlet & Violet era with a set centered on the beloved Mega Evolution mechanic. The first look showcased new artwork for Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex. In the new trailer, we saw Mega Latias ex, as well as a smattering of other cards, including; illustration rares showcased like Vulpix, Bulbasaur and Intelion and some other trainer cards.

New Trademarks Hint at What's Next
Fuelling the excitement, new trademarks have been filed by Pokémon, giving us clues about future sets.
- “MEGA Dream ex”sounds very much like a “High Class Pack” set, Japan’s usual year-end special release, which often features unique mechanics and high pull rates.
- “Abyss Eye”is more mysterious, but with Pokémon Legends: Z-A on the horizon, come believe this could be another set related to mega-evolution – and potentially a new Pokemon.
- “Storm Emeralda”immediately brings to mind Rayquaza, the master of the ozone layer. This, by our estimates, is most likely a set featuring the Mega Rayquaza.
We’re also still eagerly anticipating the Black Bolt and White Flare dual sets on July 18th, which promise to celebrate the Unova region in the same grand style as the popular Pokémon 151.
A New Chapter for WLC: Vintage Singles, Trade-Ins & More!
This surge in Pokémon TCG excitement, from new releases to celebrating the past, perfectly aligns with a new focus here at We Love Collectibles. We also have a growing collection of unique Japanese cards, such as certain banned cards, including sought-after cards from the Vending Series and early Gym sets.
For many of these unique cards, the best way to see them is to visit us in-store. Our singles binders offer a treasure hunt every time you visit! – come down to WLC in Westwood, Margate to check them out!
Magic: The Gathering - Crossovers,
Commander & Now, A Play Store!
It’s not just Pokémon making waves. The Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy set has officially become the best-selling MTG set in history based on pre-release demand alone! This proves how exciting these Universes Beyond crossovers can be. While our initial stock of Final Fantasy products was snapped up quickly, we hope to get more soon.
In the meantime, we’re looking ahead to other huge MTG releases, including the Universes Beyond: Spider-Man set later this year.
And for our local Magic community, we have some fantastic news: We Love Collectibles is now an official MTG Play Store! This means we’ll be able to host events and offer a dedicated space for you to come down and play Magic with friends. We’re incredibly excited to support the local MTG scene.

- Disney Lorcana: The game continues to evolve with the upcoming Fabled set (releasing September 5th), which will introduce a new, ultra-rare “Iconic” card tier with custom 3D foil effects! You can still grab the latest set – Reign of Jafar – products here on our website.
