Deck Building

• Construct a 60-card deck using cards from various sets.
• Include characters, items, actions, and locations.
• Choose cards from one to three of the six ink colours: Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Steel.

Game Setup

• Shuffle your deck and draw 7 cards.
• Choose up to 3 cards to put back and redraw.
• Start with 20 lore (your victory points).

Turn Structure

1. Ready Phase: Ready (turn upright) all your exerted (turned sideways) cards.
2. Draw Phase: Draw a card from your deck.
3. Ink Phase: Play up to 2 ink from your hand face-down.
4. Action Phase: Take any number of actions:
   • Play character, item, or location cards by paying their ink cost.
   • Use character or item abilities.
   • Challenge opponent’s characters with your ready characters.
   • Play action cards.
5. Shift Phase: Shift (ready) up to 2 cards you control.

Key Concepts

• Lore: Gain lore by questing with characters or through card effects. First to 20 lore wins.
• Challenging: Attack opponent’s characters to remove them from play.
• Questing: Exert a character to gain lore equal to its lore value.
• Abilities: Cards may have various abilities that trigger at different times.

Card Types

• Characters: The main way to gain lore and challenge opponents.
• Items: Equip to characters or use for their effects.
• Actions: One-time effects played during your action phase.
• Locations: Provide ongoing effects while in play.
